Over two decades ago, we started feeding a small number of children at five government-run schools in Bangalore, India, in the vicinity of our centre, with the simple idea of satiating their hunger and helping them focus in the classroom. Soon, we began receiving requests from schools across the city to serve food to their children as well. Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s vision that no one should go hungry, and to ensure that children do not miss their only lifetime chance of education simply because they cannot afford a meal, we established The Akshaya Patra Foundation. We set up our first kitchen in Bangalore to facilitate the school meals program in the city. Little did we know that this humble initiative would become one of the most appreciated interventions in the world.

Feeding and educating a child can free the entire family from poverty. We have personally witnessed this transformation in many families. Gradually, we set up kitchens in various states and extended our school lunch program all over India. Akshaya Patra commemorated the milestone of serving 4 billion meals at the United Nations Headquarters in New York last year.

We have also undertaken homeless feeding and emergency feeding, benefitting millions of people in India and abroad. The happy faces of our beneficiaries give us the strength and energy to continue our large-scale feeding operations day after day. Our impact on society motivates us to serve as many cities, states and countries as possible.

Our firm conviction that the whole world is one family led us to extend our services outside India. We established our first international kitchen in the United Kingdom, through which we are serving fresh, wholesome meals to children, university students and people in homeless shelters in the country. Our international humanitarian aid included providing food assistance to countries like Nepal, Turkey and Ukraine in times of need. We will continue to assist any nation to the best of our ability, especially during emergencies.

It is a matter of great joy that we now have the opportunity to serve the people of the United States. World Food Movement aims to provide easy access to wholesome meals for disadvantaged sections of society and play an important role in addressing hunger and food insecurity issues. Established at the beginning of 2025, World Food Movement has commenced serving fresh, nutritious meals to students in community colleges in prominent locations such as California, New Jersey and Washington D.C. We plan to extend our reach to people in homeless shelters and other communities soon.

We will also be happy to partner with other organizations from across the globe and share our knowledge with them so that we can work together on alleviating hunger in the world at a faster pace. World Food Movement will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations to end poverty and create a better world filled with peace and prosperity. Our vision aligns with the United Nations’ Zero Hunger goal, and we will strive to ensure food and nutrition security for everyone. We request your support in our humble endeavor to make a positive impact on people’s lives.
