Why a meal matters for a degree
Food insecurity affects 23% of undergraduates and 12% of graduate students, according to The Hope Center for Student Basic Needs. When students don't have to worry about their next meal, they can concentrate in class and on their ambitions.
Inspired by Srila Prabhupada's vision that no one should go hungry, and by Akshaya Patra's legacy of serving fresh meals at scale, World Food Movement serves freshly cooked vegetarian meals every week at Middlesex College, Rutgers University–Newark and Essex County College in New Jersey, and Medgar Evers College, Kingsborough Community College and the College of Staten Island in New York. More than 70,000 meals have been served so far.
